If you are trying to switch things up for your next round of golf, you are in good company. Here at Penn Oaks Golf Club, we watch people go through the same routine all the time. As a result of boredom, spur-of-the-moment ideas for fun, and so on, we have come up with some new ideas to consider trying out.
1. Invent Your Own Rules There is a very traditional set of rules that we are used to playing by when we go for a round of golf. However, inventing your own rules and/or bending rules can make things a lot more enjoyable. Have an annoying hazard that stresses you out? Give a free pass to land in it and redo your shot!
2. Change Club Traditions We all like to use a driver to tee off, an iron on the fairways, and a putter on the green, but you don’t have to play this way. Try teeing off with an iron, and only using that club until you get to the green. You can always come up with your own protocol for using clubs and practicing new ones!
3. Golf Alone It is very common for people to go with a group of friends to the golf course. This adds a little competition to the game. It doesn’t have to be this way though. You can practice a lot more by going out alone!
4. Forget Keeping Score Keeping score is a great way to compare your results for each round of golf. However, you can focus more on learning a lot on different aspects of your game if you forget the score. Try it out for a round and see what happens!
5. Put Money on the Game One of the ways that you can work on playing under pressure is to put some money on the game. Even if it’s a small amount of money that all parties are not that concerned about, gambling is a fun way to change the mood of the game.
